Tierra Linda Middle School

New Learning Commons Building

San Carlos, CA

Tierra Linda Middle School’s new Learning Commons is a multi-functional space for students, faculty and the community that serves as the hub of campus activity. Replacing an outdated multi-purpose building, the Learning Commons operates not only as a physical education space but is designed to be used for many flexible purposes, including presentations, small group instruction, school and public gatherings, and large-scale STEAM activities. Located at the heart of campus and adjacent to the drop-off area, the new facility is well-positioned for community functions. Large roll-up doors open out to the campus quad, creating a student gathering space.

The Learning Commons also houses a new expanded administration space for the campus, featuring a large daylit reception area, staff offices, a conference room, workrooms, a faculty breakroom and a nurse’s office. Formerly hard to find buried in the classroom wings, the new centralized location serves as a welcoming front entrance to the school.
