Mill Valley, Calif., Sept. 17, 2025 – Along with students, staff, community members and the project team, Tamalpais Union High School District (TUHSD) recently celebrated the groundbreaking of significant new facilities at Tamalpais High School. Designed by Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) and being built by Lathrop Construction Associates, the new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) and Music Buildings will greatly enhance the district’s programming with modern, state-of-the-art learning environments. The projects are funded by local Bond Measure B.

“This is an incredibly exciting time as we welcome students and staff back to school for a new year, and simultaneously get started on these Measure B projects,” said Dr. Courtney Goode, TUHSD Superintendent. “This investment in our community will allow us to support the highest quality education for our students, with facilities and technology that will help them gain the skills to lead in a competitive world.”

Replacing outdated Music and Math classroom buildings, the project consists of a new four-story STEAM Building and separate Music Building, which will be connected by an elevated pedestrian walkway. The 24,000 square-foot STEAM Building will include nine standard classrooms, two science classrooms with shared prep space and a specialized photography classroom with adjoining support space. The building will also be equipped with restrooms, storage, and staff collaboration and conference space. The new 9,000 square-foot Music Building will house ensemble rooms for band and choir, a recording studio with practice rooms, and music library. Additionally, the building will provide storage, restroom and lobby spaces.

Incorporating several opportunities for outdoor learning and gathering, the project will provide a new student quad, outdoor balconies in the Music Building, a new student garden space, and a covered gathering space at the floor level of the STEAM Building. Additionally, improved pedestrian paths will serve to connect the new buildings to historic landmarks on campus, such as Mead Amphitheater and the Redwood grove.

“These facilities will really give students and staff appropriate and dedicated spaces for arts, and math and science study and exploration,” said QKA Principal Kevin Chapin. “The new buildings, outdoor spaces and improved landscaping will serve to energize this side of the campus and provide a sense of connection throughout.”

The project includes a new solar PV system on the STEAM Building, as well as drought resistant and native landscape features, water smart plumbing fixtures, LED fixtures and occupancy sensors throughout the two buildings.

Also included in funding from Measure B, next month TUHSD will break ground on new Fine Arts and Music Buildings at Redwood High School.
