With over 35 years of experience in the field of architecture, Jim Theiss is QKA’s COO/Secretary and one of six principals, as well as head partner of the Construction Administration department. Prior to joining QKA in 2000, Jim specialized in multi-family residential, worship, and retail facilities, but soon realized his passion for designing educational spaces – finding it a privilege to be able to create environments that inspire, enhance the community, and create positive school memories for students. Building upon his experience in the construction industry, Jim also developed and ran a non-profit that offered hands-on construction training via renovation projects to cultivate employment skills for its participants.

Today, Jim serves as principal for numerous comprehensive campus projects, including several new facilities for Liberty Union High School District in Brentwood, Calif. He is a former board member for the American Institute of Architects Redwood Empire Chapter (AIARE), where he spearheaded the new AIARE Leadership Development program, which introduces leadership concepts, networking opportunities, and creation of a personal development plan for each participant.

Outside of the office, Jim enjoys getting outdoors via mountain biking, backpacking, camping, and fly fishing. Additionally, he is passionate about his church and has served on the leadership teams of several Christian organizations.
