Cupertino, Calif., May 14, 2025 – Construction has commenced on a new Robotics Facility for the Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD). Located at Cupertino High School (CHS), the state-of-the-art, purpose-built space will serve students from all high schools across the district, providing an exceptional environment for creativity, collaboration and breakthrough achievement. Designed by Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) and built by Landmark Construction, with Blach Construction serving as construction manager, the project is funded by local Measure G bond funds.

“We are thrilled to create a dedicated space for our award-winning Robotics Teams, who consistently demonstrate exceptional creativity and skill,” said Graham Clark, FUHSD superintendent. “This new facility will ignite our Robotics Programs, fostering greater collaboration and further innovation. We want to thank the community and our project team for supporting this vision.”

Replacing makeshift classrooms and portable buildings, the new 14,500 sq. ft. facility will elevate the district’s Robotics education to a world-class standard. Designed to reflect the innovative nature of Silicon Valley, the facility will feature a field space, spectator seating, workshop, classroom, and teamwork areas designed for collaboration and achievement. Careful consideration has been given to functionality, including enhanced electrical and mechanical infrastructure, controlled daylighting, robust Wi-Fi and technology infrastructure, an acoustic roof deck, wall panels and security systems.

The layout, volume and finishes of the spaces are tailored to meet the program’s specialized needs. High ceilings will accommodate the potential use of aerial drones, and the flooring will be treated with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection to prevent harmful static buildup between sensitive electronics and robots. Wi-Fi specifications have been optimized to minimize interference with robotic control systems, ensuring seamless operation without disrupting broader campus connectivity.

“Designing a facility with such unique requirements presented its own challenges, but the collaboration with current and recent students, adult mentors and coaches was invaluable to our design process,” said QKA Principal Nick Stephenson. “Their firsthand insights directly shaped the project’s outcome, helping us create a facility that will greatly benefit and enhance their program.”

The project’s exterior includes rooftop solar panels, as well as an outdoor workspace, entry plaza, drop-off areas and landscaping, creating a welcoming visitor experience.

Kevin Brennan, president at Landmark, remarked, “We are honored to be a part of the team that is going to deliver this state-of-the-art Robotics Facility. With California leading the nation in technology and innovation, this project is especially exciting and is a space that will develop future technology leaders for generations to come. We look forward to a safe and successful project for all stakeholders.”

Construction on FUHSD’s new Robotics Facility is expected to complete Fall 2026, welcoming students for the new school year.
