The Controller is responsible for all aspects of the financial and accounting functions of the firm. The ideal candidate must possess solid communication, technology, analytical, and management skills and knowledge of GAAP/accrual-based accounting. This position requires at least five to seven years of relevant experience, including two to three years in a management capacity.


This is full-time, salaried exempt, and is part of the firm’s management team, will report to the CFO/Treasurer, and will manage three to four individuals in the accounting/finance department. The salary range for this position is $125-145(k) per year.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the firm’s daily accounting functions
  • Managing accounting, payroll, contracts, accounts payable and accounts receivable, and daily cash flow, using Deltek’s Vantagepoint system
  • Working with the management team and external advisors to guide the organization’s financial decisions, including revenue forecasting
  • Communicating regularly with, and reporting to the CFO
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Managing the firm’s yearly budget process
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
  • Developing and monitoring financial performance metrics and project-specific budgets
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance
  • Participating in hiring, training, and retraining accounting staff
  • Working with the firm’s consultants related to project agreements and billings


These responsibilities are typical but are not all-encompassing. Each person is expected to work collaboratively as a team and to assist in any duties required to deliver a quality product on schedule, and within the project budget and the budgeted hours provided.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Knowledge and relevant experience with GAAP/accrual-based accounting
  • Minimum 5 – 7 years of relevant work experience, including 2-3 years of management experience
  • MBA or professional certification i.e., CPA, CGMA, or CMA is preferred
  • Strong written, graphic, and verbal communication skills and experience communicating with key stakeholders, employees, clients, and consultants
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.
