This mixed use building provides a two-bedroom flat with private and semi-private outdoor space, over a retail shop in an historic downtown experiencing revitalization. An expansive folding glass wall, large view areas, abundant daylight and an inviting entry courtyard enhance the quality of space on this small 6,400 square foot parcel.

In response to other downtown buildings, the new 3,100 square foot mixed use structure’s form and height aid in bridging the neighboring structures while common materials further enforce the transition - matching sloped roof and steel awning, similar to the new building, and use of brick wainscot in response to the historic structure. The residence’s curved roof provides a natural daylight scoop to the north and natural ventilation through high windows for the flat’s main space. An expansive folding glass wall creates a seamless indoor-outdoor connection highlighting stunning views of the Alexander Valley hills.
